As a wedding photographer, I have the privilege of witnessing and capturing life’s most heartwarming, hilarious, and unexpected moments. This past year has been a whirlwind of love stories told in the most beautiful ways, from the grand celebrations to the intimate elopements.
Amid the stunning venues, carefully planned details, and tearful vows, it's often the unplanned moments that stick with me long after the final edit is delivered. From a flower girl’s cheeky rebellion to a magical, rain-soaked first dance, these are five moments from 2024 that I hold especially close to my heart—each one reminding me why I love what I do.
melting dress on katrina & reid's special day
Wedding dresses have a knack for attracting chaos—wine stains, muddy hems, or an accidental rip from an overenthusiastic dance partner. But Katrina’s dress? It took wedding mishaps to a whole new level.
While exploring Iceland’s iconic lava fields ( only at safe spot) for a post-ceremony photoshoot, Katrina’s flowing white gown trailed gracefully along the ground. Cue the plot twist: the heat from the lava melted parts of her dress, leaving a few unexpected holes behind.
Was it a disaster? Hardly! It became a story no one could top and a memory as uniquely Icelandic as the wedding itself. Because when you say “I do” in Iceland, you’re signing up for an adventure—melting dresses and all!
Heroe of Alma & Hrafn's wedding day
Weddings are often a mix of love, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos. Alma’s big day had all three in abundance—and a little surprise in the form of a certain Skoda Octavia.
The plan was simple: Alma would roll up to the church in style in a classic 4x4 that oozed vintage charm. But life, as it does, had other ideas. As the clock ticked closer to “I do,” the bridal car decided to take a permanent break, leaving Alma stranded just when she needed a hero.
Meanwhile, outside the church, Alma’s mother and mother-in-law were eagerly waiting for the bride to arrive. The quiet anticipation was suddenly interrupted by the rumble of…a Skoda Octavia? The sleek-but-definitely-not-a-4x4 car pulled up to the front steps, leaving the mothers exchanging puzzled glances.
Everyone had the same question - who is this?
Out stepped Alma, radiant and laughing, her wedding gown spilling out like a cloud. The mothers’ confusion deepened—until the driver’s door opened, and out popped Alma’s neighbour, grinning from ear to ear.
The backstory? Alma’s quick-thinking neighbour had saved the day in the most unassuming way possible. When the 4x4 broke down, Alma had no choice but to knock on her neighbour’s door, wedding gown in tow. With no hesitation, her neighbour grabbed the car keys and chauffeured the bride to her wedding in record time.
As laughter bubbled up from the gathered guests and family, it was clear this moment would go down in wedding lore. Because while a vintage 4x4 might make for a picture-perfect arrival, nothing beats the charm of a real-life rescue story—and a Skoda Octavia that became the unlikely hero of the day.
Caught up in a sand storm with Meghan & tara
Iceland is known for its unpredictable weather—snowstorms, heavy winds, northern lights, and even sun and rain at the same time. But during Meghan and Tara’s June wedding, I encountered a first: a sandstorm!
The day started beautifully, with sunshine lighting up the celebration. But as we made our way to the beach for photos, the wind decided to kick things up—literally. One of the strongest sandstorms I’ve ever experienced greeted us, filling our eyes, noses, and even mouths with sand.
Here’s the twist: instead of dampening the mood, it sparked endless laughter. Meghan and Tara embraced the chaos, and the result was a series of playful, windswept photos that captured the day’s joy perfectly.
Because if there’s one thing Iceland teaches you, it’s that unpredictable moments make the best memories. And this sandstorm? Unforgettable.
One wedding, two love stories
Weddings are already brimming with love, but every so often, one comes along that packs a double dose of romance. Tara and Shane’s celebration was one of those magical days, with a little secret tucked into the schedule: a surprise proposal.
Tara had let me in on the plan ahead of time—her brother was going to propose to his girlfriend during the reception. Originally, the big moment was slotted for after dinner, but we had a quick brainstorming session and came up with a better idea: why not do it before the meal? That way, everyone could celebrate from the get-go, and her brother wouldn’t have to keep his nerves in check through the entire dinner.
When the time came, it unfolded in the most perfect way. Tara stepped up to the mic to announce the bouquet toss, but instead of throwing her bridal flowers, she turned around and handed them to her brother’s girlfriend.
Behind her, Tara’s brother had quietly dropped to one knee. As the soon-to-be fiancée turned around, her jaw dropped—followed quickly by tears, laughter, and an enthusiastic “Yes!”
The room erupted in cheers and applause, and for a moment, it felt like the love in the air could lift the roof. From that point on, it wasn’t just Tara and Shane’s wedding—it was also the start of a brand-new chapter for Tara’s brother and his fiancée.
Talk about a celebration to remember! One wedding, two love stories, and a whole lot of joy shared by everyone in the room.
Pleasent surprise at the end of the Jasmine & Aaron's wedding
When people think of Iceland, the breathtaking Northern Lights often top their bucket list. But as stunning as they are, these natural wonders remain beautifully unpredictable. For Jasmine and Aaron, however, the auroras made a spectacular appearance.
Their wedding day was already magical, filled with love and joy amidst Iceland's dramatic landscapes. But as the reception party danced late into the night, I stepped outside to find the sky alive with vibrant northern lights. Without hesitation, I ran back into the reception room, weaving through the dancing crowd to find Jasmine and Aaron. Pulling them outside, we captured one of my favorite photos of the season under the shimmering auroras.
Getting married in Iceland is already a dream, but ending the day beneath the northern lights? Pure magic.
