After 10 years of running Sunday & White Studio, capturing moments, I realised that you might know about my work, but not that much about me, the person behind the camera.

So hello - I am Laimonas, the creative heart behind Sunday & White Studio. Born in Lithuania, I made Iceland my home 15 years ago, and from the very first moment I stepped foot on this land, I knew I had found something extraordinary.

Iceland, with its untamed landscapes and quiet magic, welcomed me with open arms. It wasn’t just the dramatic scenery that captured my heart—it was the freedom and space I found here to be myself truly. In Iceland, I discovered not only a new home but also a place where I could grow, explore, and embrace who I am, without fear or hesitation.

First Encounters in Photography

My love for photography began when I was young. I never met my grandfather, as he passed away a few years before I was born. He left behind a film camera to my grandmother, whom I was very close to while growing up. We lived together, and I spent countless hours in her room playing with that camera, which sat on a shelf. I remember pressing the shutter button and hearing the satisfying click, even though there was no film inside. That experience sparked something within me—a fascination with capturing moments.

A few years later, my mom gifted me a film camera for a school field trip. With wide-eyed excitement, I used the entire roll, snapping pictures of everything: classmates, buildings, trees, and even random shots. Among those frames, only one photo of me survived—riding a pony in a carriage at the zoo. My mom wasn't thrilled with the shot, but that single image marked the beginning of a lifelong passion.

Moving countries

Moving to Reykjavík was a pivotal moment in my life, one that transformed not just my career, but my sense of self. Growing up, I struggled to fully express my true identity. But in the heart of Reykjavík, I found a safe and accepting space that empowered me to live authentically. It was here that I finally found the courage to embrace who I am and step into my truth. It was also here, in this vibrant city, that I realized I could follow my dreams, build the life I wanted, and shape a career that reflected my passions.

In 2011, I moved to Reykjavík to pursue a formal education in photography. However, studying in a new language came with its challenges. I paused my studies and took on various jobs, including working at Te & Kaffi - a coffee roasters and cafe’ in Iceland. Little did I know, this was to become a life-changing chapter in my story. The team at Te & Kaffi saw my passion for photography and believed in my potential. They bought me my first camera, which I paid back by capturing images for them. Their support was a catalyst, giving me the confidence to take my first steps toward building my career.

Career that is more of a lifestyle

Today, photography is so much more than a career—it’s my way of telling stories and preserving memories. Weddings are at the heart of my work, but I also love diving into other creative projects, like portraits, interiors, and editorial shoots. Through the lens of my camera, I get to capture fleeting moments of joy, love, and connection, and that is truly a privilege. Photography is a celebration of the beautiful, unique stories that make life so special.

Along the way, photography has also transformed me as a person. It’s opened doors to experiences I never could have imagined, from intimate weddings on Iceland’s windswept coasts to vibrant celebrations in far-flung destinations. I’ve had the honor of witnessing powerful moments of connection, and that has deepened my appreciation for the world and the people in it. Each photograph I take is not just a moment in time; it’s a reflection of life’s beautiful complexity.

Currently

These days, I share my life in Reykjavík with my wonderful partner, Valdi, who works as a wedding planner at Pink Iceland. Our home is also shared with our cutest Havanese dog, Sómi, and our mischievous cat, Dísa. When we’re not traveling or enjoying time with friends, you’ll find me fully immersed in the world of Sunday & White. It’s not just my job—it’s my passion, my purpose, and my life. Balancing work and personal time is always a challenge, but it’s one I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Thank you for being here and for being a part of this journey. I look forward to sharing my love for photography with you and to celebrate the beautiful, life-changing moments that we all experience.
